Last updated 19 October 2026 · Version 2.3, replacing version 2.2 of 19 October 2026 (the price of each additional text language in section 8.1). This is an English translation of the Finnish original; if the versions differ, the Finnish version applies.
Service provider: Quiet North, Inc., a company registered in Delaware, United States (Delaware file number 10788695). Registered address: 2810 North Church Street, Wilmington, DE 19802, United States. Contact: hello@espero.live.
Who sells the paid products:
In both cases Quiet North provides the Espero service and is responsible for the access rights you buy working as described in these Terms.
These Terms govern your use of the Espero apps on iOS, Android and the web and of the espero.live service. By creating an account or using Espero, you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the service. If you are a consumer, you also have the rights given to you by law, and these Terms do not limit them.
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if higher. You must not be barred from using the service under applicable law. If you act on behalf of an organisation, you must be authorised to accept these Terms for it.
You sign in with your email address and a one-time code we send to it. On iPhone and iPad you can also sign in with Apple. You are responsible for keeping your email and devices secure and for the activity on your account. Tell us promptly at hello@espero.live if you suspect unauthorised use.
Espero translates messages between languages. Our servers process the text to translate it. AI translations, transcripts, captions, summaries and spoken translations may contain errors; the original message is shown alongside the translation. Translations are read aloud with an AI voice. If a user has created their Own Voice, translations of their messages and events may be read with an AI voice created from their voice, and this is marked in the listening view. The in-app help assistant is an AI. See the security description.
One-to-one voice and video calls travel directly between the participants' devices or through an encrypted relay. Espero does not record or store call audio or video. Calls do not include translation, interpreting or transcription unless the app clearly offers it as a separate feature.
Follow the Community Guidelines. Do not use the service for anything illegal, harmful, abusive or infringing, and do not disrupt, abuse or reverse-engineer it. We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks the rules. Child sexual abuse material and other illegal content are prohibited.
You keep ownership of the messages and media you send, of what is spoken at your events and of the song lyrics you save. You grant us the limited licence needed to transmit, store and process that content for the service's features: for example to transcribe voice messages, describe images, run the search and summary you request, translate for the recipients you choose, caption and translate events, translate song lyrics, handle translation feedback and reports you send us for review (see the Privacy Policy) and, if you have given separate consent, read translations with your own AI voice. The licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies already delivered to others or sent to us for review. We do not sell your content or use it for advertising. We do not use your messages to train AI models; if we want to do so in the future, we will first ask for your separate consent.
7.1 What you can buy on the web. Our web shop offers the products listed there at any given time, for example organizer translation-hour packages and other packages and subscriptions shown on the site. The product, price, validity and seller are stated before you pay.
7.2 Seller and payment. You pay on Stripe's payment page by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link or another method the page offers. The seller is, as described at the start of these Terms, either Link (Stripe) as reseller or Quiet North, Inc. The seller emails you a receipt or invoice. We also send a confirmation of the added time and of your organizer ID to your Espero account email. These Terms, the validity and the withdrawal instructions can be read on this page and in the organizer workspace. The access right is added to your account once the payment is confirmed.
7.3 Prices and taxes. Prices shown to consumers include VAT. The price, currency and tax are shown on the payment page before you pay; outside Finland the tax of the buyer's country applies. We may change prices and the range for future purchases; a change does not affect products already bought.
7.4 Subscriptions on the web. If you buy a recurring subscription on the web, it renews for a period of the same length until you cancel it. Cancel before the end of the period in the seller's order management (Link) or in Espero's billing portal, which you reach from the organizer workspace. A cancelled subscription continues to the end of the paid period.
7.5 Validity of purchases. One-off pack hours and purchased AI minutes do not expire, whether bought on the web, in the App Store or on Google Play. Organizer subscription hours are valid for 15 months from grant (section 8.3). Gift hours are valid for 24 months (section 8.4).
7.6 Consumer right of withdrawal. If you are a consumer, you may withdraw from a purchase made on the web within 14 days of concluding the contract by telling us at hello@espero.live or the seller as instructed on the receipt. You may use the withdrawal form below, but you do not have to. So that the translation hours, AI minutes or subscription you buy are available at once, we ask before payment for your express request that the service starts during the withdrawal period and your acknowledgement that the right of withdrawal ends once the service has been fully performed (for example when the package's hours or minutes have been used). If you withdraw after you have started using the service, you pay for the part used and receive the rest back within 14 days of your withdrawal notice, to the same payment method. The right of withdrawal applies only to consumers; it does not apply to purchases made in the name of an organisation or to free gift or trial hours.
Model withdrawal form: "To: Quiet North, Inc., hello@espero.live. I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the purchase of the following service: [product]. Ordered on [date]. Name of consumer, address, Espero account email, date and signature (if on paper)."
7.7 Faults and refunds. If a charge is wrong or the service does not match what was agreed, contact hello@espero.live. We refund wrongful charges. If you are a consumer, you also have the statutory right to have a fault corrected and, if it is not corrected, to a price reduction or to terminate the contract. Refunds go to the original payment method. When a payment is refunded, the corresponding share is removed from your balance.
7.8 Business and organisation customers. You act as a business when you buy in the name of an organisation (for example a church, association, school or company) or enter an organisation name or VAT ID on the payment page. In that case:
8.1 Translation hours. An hour means one broadcast hour in one language. The first text language costs €1.50 per broadcast hour for up to 100 listeners per language, each additional text language costs +€1.50/h, and listening through personal headphones costs +€1.50/h per language. Prices include 25.5% VAT. Captions in the spoken language are included, and listeners using the same language share one translation. The balance is used whenever the microphone is on, including silent moments; pausing the microphone uses no balance. The balance is shared by all your events and is shown in the organizer workspace together with the validity of your hours.
8.2 Packages and prices. One-off packs are 10 h / €15.00, 20 h / €30.00, 50 h / €75.00 and 100 h / €142.50 (5% off), including 25.5% VAT. Purchases of at least 500 hours are quoted with a 10% discount. A pack is a one-time purchase: it does not renew and causes no later charges. Organizer subscriptions provide 10, 20, 50 or 100 hours per month for €15.00 / €30.00 / €75.00 / €142.50 per month. Annual billing costs ten months at the list price, or €150.00 / €300.00 / €750.00 / €1,500.00 per year: two months free. Discounts do not stack: the annual price includes no size discount. In other countries the price is shown on the payment page or in the app store in the buyer's currency and with their country's tax.
8.3 Validity. One-off pack hours never expire, whether bought on the web, in the App Store or on Google Play. Monthly and annual subscription hours are valid for 15 months from grant. Monthly subscriptions add hours monthly; annual subscriptions add the whole year's hours immediately. Gift hours (section 8.4) are used first whenever an event fits their terms, and then other hours. Subscriptions are always billed regardless of use or balance. Upgrades take effect immediately, with the difference charged for the current month; downgrades take effect at the next renewal. You can cancel at any time under section 7.4. This does not limit your right to a refund if you could not use the hours for a reason attributable to us or if you terminate the contract under the law.
8.4 Gift hours. You may receive gift hours, for example for referrals. Gift hours are valid for 24 months: a batch expires 24 months after the end of the calendar month in which the hours were granted. Gift hours granted before this term took effect keep their earlier terms and do not expire. Gift hours can caption an event with up to three languages in total including the spoken language; they do not include listening. Gift hours cannot be exchanged for money or transferred to another account. Referrals: when a new organizer starts their free trial with your referral code, you each receive one gift hour, and when they have used their 2-hour trial in full, you each receive one more. You cannot use your own code. A code can be used once, for an unused trial and with a verified email address. We may remove gift hours obtained contrary to these Terms.
8.5 Free trial. When the trial is offered, you can start a free 2-hour trial once your email address is verified. The trial is meant once per person and per organisation; using several email addresses to obtain new trials is prohibited. A trial cannot be started again with the same email address, including after deleting the account and creating a new one: a record of the used trial is kept for 12 months after account deletion (see the Privacy Policy). Trial hours last for as long as your account exists. When the balance runs out, a pack or upgrade is usable immediately. You get a warning when less than 20 minutes remain. If the balance runs out, the broadcast pauses until you add time. The trial is not offered to an account that already has an active events entitlement, such as a pilot access code.
8.6 Organizer responsibilities. The organizer decides whether an event is captioned and who can follow it. Tell participants before the event that speech is captioned and translated with AI and that anyone with the viewing link can read the captions without an account. Pause the microphone before personal or sensitive parts, such as prayer requests or health information. Do not caption or share content you have no right to. If you organise events on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to act for it, and section 7.8 applies to the organisation.
8.7 Song lyrics. The organizer may save song lyrics for an event and, when the feature is enabled, in their own library for reuse; lines may be translated in advance. The organizer is responsible for having the rights to the lyrics they save and show and to their translations, for example a valid licence (such as a CCLI licence) or the rightsholder's permission. Saved lyrics and their translations are the organizer's content, which we process on the organizer's behalf under the licence in section 5 and, for organisations, the data processing agreement. We may remove lyrics that are the subject of a substantiated rightsholder claim.
8.8 Deleting your account. When you delete your Espero account, your organizer workspace is deleted too. Unused bought hours, trial hours and gift hours are lost and cannot be transferred to another account. If you have unused bought hours, contact hello@espero.live before deleting your account. Deleting your account does not limit a consumer's right of withdrawal.
8.9 Discontinuing the service. If we discontinue the event captioning service, we will give reasonable advance notice and refund valid, unused bought hours.
We develop the service actively. Features may change, and some features open in stages. We give no service-level commitment and do not guarantee uninterrupted service.
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account for breaches of these Terms or the law, or to protect users or the service. We tell you about a restriction and its grounds as described in the Community Guidelines.
Espero is not an emergency service. It cannot be used to call emergency numbers such as 112, 911 or 999. It is not a certified interpreting or relay service. Do not rely on it as your only means of communication in an emergency or where accurate, verified communication is essential, such as in healthcare, legal matters or safety-critical situations.
AI translations, transcripts, captions, summaries and spoken translations may contain errors. The original message or speech always prevails; check important information against the original.
If you are a consumer, you have statutory rights if the service or an access right you bought does not match what was agreed. These Terms are not applied in a way that would limit those rights.
We are liable for damage we cause by breaching these Terms or the law. We are not liable for indirect damage, such as lost income, or for damage caused by an obstacle beyond our control. These limitations do not apply to damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, or to liability that cannot be limited by law. If you use the service in business or on behalf of an organisation, our liability is limited to the fees you paid for the service in the preceding 12 months.
These Terms are governed by the law of Finland. If you are a consumer living in another EU or EEA country, you are also protected by the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence.
Contact us first at hello@espero.live and we will try to resolve the matter. A consumer may bring proceedings in the courts of their place of residence. A consumer living in Finland may refer a dispute to the Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi), and a consumer living in another EU country may ask their national European Consumer Centre for help. Disputes other than consumer disputes are settled in the District Court of Helsinki.
We may change these Terms or the service for a valid reason: a change in law or an authority's decision, security, technical development of the service or a change of service provider. We give reasonable advance notice of material changes in the app or by email; changes that adversely affect your use are notified on a durable medium by email. If you do not accept a change, you may stop using the service and delete your account before the change takes effect. If you are a consumer and a change adversely affects your use of the service more than minimally, you may in addition terminate the contract free of charge within 30 days of the notice or the change, whichever is later, and receive back the unused share of the price you paid (for in-app purchases, through the store). Changes do not weaken the terms of hours, minutes or a paid subscription period already bought during their validity. Earlier versions are available on request.
